DESK TOP DIG

Read the instructions with the teacher. Here are some illustrations to help you.
You will use paper similar to this to document your findings.

Your dig site color will be yellow, blue, black, or red. Each one is different.

You will find artifacts from 4 different Mayan areas of settlement:
The Coastal Mayans
The Peasant (Thorn Forest) Mayans
The Lowland Rainforest Mayans
The Highland Rainforest Mayans


When you finish a dig site square, place the cube in the center. Leave the artifact where you found it. Why?

Notice the side panels of the box. This tells you the reference number. Which square has the artifact?

We are indoors because it's just a little too wet outside for archaeology!

Where is it? Who built it? How does it compare to other pyramids in the ancient world?

Answer: Mexico City, Mexico/ Aztec Empire/ Some Aztec and Mayan Pyramids are as large in total volume as the pyramids of Giza, Egypt. This includes the huge stone platforms that they are built upon. The tallest Mayan Pyramids are 256 feet tall. The Pyramids of Giza are taller.File:SunPyramid.jpg
